Brand Identity

SideQuest Theater is Philadelphia’s home for adventurous, unscripted theater. Built on the thrill of the unknown, SideQuest creates high-stakes, spontaneous storytelling that invites the audience into the heart of the action. As a brand, it needed to feel both professional enough to command the stage and playful enough to embrace the "quest" inherent in improv.

I was brought on at the ground floor to translate this spirit of adventure into a cohesive visual identity, from the primary mark to the individual worlds of their unique productions.

SideQuest needed a visual language that felt epic and legendary—bridging the gap between the spontaneity of improv and the polished aesthetic of a tabletop RPG or a classic adventure novel.

Illustrative typography: Develop a custom typographic system that serves as the centerpiece of the brand, evoking drama and designed to stand out on street-level posters and digital event listings alike.

Textural storytelling: Integrate weathered elements and distressed paper textures to suggest a brand with history, grit, and a sense of "finding" the story as you go.

Creative upgrade: Take the client's initial quest-themed concepts and elevate them into a sophisticated, cohesive brand system—moving from "hobbyist" tropes to a professional, "adventurous" theater identity.
